Who can tell me what the connection is between the above painting and the following quote?
The more anyone loves the sound of invisible waters, the more he tears bricks from the wall to toss into that unseen river, drunk with that sound which the loveless hear as just a splash.
- Jalaluddin Rumi (Mathnawi II 1213-1214)

Not sure of the connection, but those lines from Rumi speak volumes as his writing usually does.
I can't wait for your answer as I am intrigued but stumped.
On a simple read of the Rumi quote, I would suggest that we are looking for something related to the continuum of love - through one that recognizes the majesty of the ever-nearing divinity. The continuity of evolution symbolized by the river and the dismantling of the wall, barrier of the temporal self.
The Lady and the Unicorn - Sight, implies the recognition of the divinity in oneself - the unicorn often a symbol of divinity.
As to the connection... Rumi though the divinity existed within the self and that through love a recognition and reunion/attainment of that divinity could be reached.
Could be why our temporal temptress is looking so down in the mouth. No unicorn love for her.
There, how's that?
Thanks for your feedback so far @pamir and @idnapper! I'm itching to say something, but I'll get a few more responses before I give my own answer. :)
The self reflection of the self can help a person hear their soul. :)..FRED
Thanks Fred. You guys are deep. I'm going to have to be careful now how I word MY answer! lol
What a great riddle! I’ll try my hand at making a connection...
When you are in love with an illusion, you are the only one who thinks it is beautiful, because you are the only one who can see it. And you would tear down the bricks of your world to feed this illusion, while others look on in disdain, wondering what all the fuss is about.
We do what we do for passion. And passion is a way of connecting to divinity.

Wow John, way to think outside the box.
This is true about passion, Christopher. I doubt whether any had divine experiences while being blase and skeptical...
